Jamaica Sustainable Farm Enterprise

The Source Farm Foundation hosts the annual One One Coco Organic Agriculture School every February. This year, a volunteer was requested to teach Permaculture methods to the students, who were aspiring organic growers from the area of St. Thomas Parish. The volunteer was expected to provide technical assistance in drought-resistant agricultural methods, earthworks for hillside farming, surface water management, erosion control, and low-flow irrigation systems design.

Extension Agent Training in the Dominican Republic


FAVACA volunteer Robert D. Halman traveled to the Dominican Republic to assist banana growers in the Yaque del Norte with climate change issues in June of this year. Mr. Halman, a prior volunteer with FAVACA, is Agriculture and Small Farms Extension Agent for the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences in Collier County, Florida.

Singing for Change Supports Small Farmers in Rural Haiti

Chicken CoopThe Singing for Change Foundation is supporting egg production for small farmers in rural Haiti as a part of ongoing poverty alleviation efforts.  Pictured here is the first of two chicken coops for rural communities one hour east of Port-au-Prince, Haiti.  Haitian NGO Royal Palm and FAVACA are working to diversify small farmer income through holistic sustainable farm practices.
