What do Olympic Gold Medalist Walter McCoy, former Key West Mayor Sheila Mullins, Academy Award-winner Richard Portman, and sixth generation Florida beekeeper, Laurence Cutts, have in common? They are Florida's International Volunteer Corps consultants.

FAVACA's Florida International Volunteer Corps provides training and technical assistance in Central America and the Caribbean through the following programs: Seniors in Service Overseas, Farmer-to-Farmer, Professional Exchange Program, Disaster Management Project, Capacity-Building, University Studios, Environmental Connection, Association Ambassadors, Florida-Haiti Initiative, Health and Social Partners, Youth Alliance, and Women's Leadership Project. Founded in 1982, FAVA/CA is funded in part by the state of Florida and enjoys statutory authority. Training is demand-driven by overseas non-governmental organizations and local government agencies. Volunteer consultants are recognized experts in their fields. More than 1300 Volunteer Corps missions have reached 24,000 individuals in 25 nations of the region since 1986.

The following have provided major cash contributions to Florida's International Volunteer Corps: Pew Charitable Trusts, Combined Federal Campaign, Hamilton Bank Foundation, Florida Catholic Conference, Florida Department of State, Ambassador Pete Peterson, Tampa Port Authority, Cayman National Bank, Florida State Employees Charitable Campaign, Port of Miami, Basic Foundation, U.S. State Department, Jimmy Buffett, Florida Governors Jeb Bush and Lawton Chiles, Pan American Development Foundation, Mukti Fund, United Nations International Labour Organisation, Claude Pepper Foundation, HelpAge International, United States Information Service, National Association of Social Workers - Florida Chapter, Florida Department of Commerce, Ambassador Jeannette Hyde, Volunteers in Overseas Cooperative Assistance, Partners of the Americas, the Equitable corporation, Florida Governor's Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development, and U.S. Agency for International Development.
